Welcome to Philippi, West Virginia
Chartered in 1844, Philippi offers modern conveniences in an historical setting. The site of the first land battle of the Civil War, the town contains many reminders of its beginnings as the county seat of Barbour County, Virginia. Its famed Covered Bridge, the only two-lane covered bridge in the federal highway system, leads into an attractive and progressive community of locally owned businesses, professional services, and safe residential areas.

Visitors may trace Philippi's history and development at the Historical Museum, Blue an Gray Park, and the downtown historical district. Alderson-Broaddus College, a Baptist-affiliated four-year liberal arts college, is located here.

Philippi offers good schools, churches, recreational facilities, a public library, hospital and clinics, a modern motel, a bed and breakfast, fine restaurants, three banks, and a variety of businesses. The city owns its own electrical, Internet, and television cable systems. A city-owned 50,000 square foot building and a 20-acre industrial park are available for new industry.

Philippi is located on U.S. Routes 119 and 250, less than a two-hour drive from Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland borders. The Philippi-Barbour Airport has a 3200 foot runway and is equipped with dawn-to-dusk lights.

Philippi, A Good place to visit; a Great Place to Live.
