Christmastime Events 2009

Philippi Main Street is sponsoring a Homemade Tree Ornament Contest. These ornaments need to be turned into the City Office by noon on December 4. They will be on display at the Craft Show.

The Annual Christmas Parade is the first event on Friday, December 4, at 7 pm. Line-up will begin at 6 pm at Subway on South Main Street. Philippi volunteer firemen will be doing the line-up. The theme for this year's parade is "North Pole Fantasy on Candy Cane Lane." Prizes will be given to those entries that best reflect the theme. After the parade children can visit Santa at the Courthouse Square gazebo.

The Annual Craft Show will take place on Friday, December 4, from 4 to 9 pm and on Saturday, December 5, from 9 am - 3 pm in the basement of City Hall. Crafters or anyone needing information should contact Susie Higgins at 304-457-3700 ext 211 or 304-457-3654. The Craft Show is sponsored by the Philip Barbour Band Boosters. This Craft Show will feature over 30 vendors. Crafts for sale include - candles, baskets, quilts, soaps, lotions, flower arrangements, crocheted items, jewelry, wood crafts, primitive country craft items, Christmas craft items, Rada Cutlery, Home and Garden, Pampered Chef, Tupperware, Avon, Cookie Lee Jewelry, Stamp It, and much more. Food will also be available - hotdogs, nachos, taco salad, pepperoni rolls, famous "PB Band" chili, and baked goods. Breakfast items on Saturday will include biscuits and gravy plus other assorted breakfast items. On Saturday there will be gift wrapping available. The Philippi Recreation Department will have a table for children to make ornaments on Saturday.

The Business Window Decorating should be in place by December 4. Businesses are asked to decorate their windows and/or storefronts with white lights to give the town a uniform and historic look. Businesses will also use the theme "North Pole Fantasy on Candy Cane Lane" in decorating their windows. Participating businesses will receive a plaque.

The Home Decorating Contest judging will be on December 15, 16, and 17. Homes in the area will be judged for the best decorations with first, second, and third place prizes awarded. The winners will be notified on Monday, December 21.

The Parking Meter Decorating Contest will award first, second, and third place prizes. Any group, civic organization, business, or individual who wishes to decorate a meter can contact the Main Street office for reservations. The meters must be completed for judging on Friday by Parade time. Materials used to decorate the meters should be able to withstand harsh winter weather. The theme for decorating the meters is "North Pole Fantasy on Candy Cane Lane."

Philippi Main Street and Philippi Convention and Visitors Bureau will be hosting a Breakfast with Santa on December 5, at 8:30 am at Heiner Hall on the A-B Campus. Children 12 and under will be admitted free and adults and children 13 and over will be charged $5.00. Reservations are required. Call 304-457-3700 for reservations.

 Adaland Open House - Saturday, December 5, from 11 am to 5 pm and Sunday, December 6, from 1 pm to 5 pm. Free admission, Refreshments available.

Holiday Sweet Shop -  Saturday, December 5, from 9 am to noon at Crim Memorial UM Church.
