First Impressions/Community Design Team

The City of Philippi is participating in two projects to enhance community development. The First Impressions program began with a half dozen visitors that came to the community on different occassions to anonomously gather 'first impressions' on their own. Philippi was visited in December 2008 and January 2009. These impressions were gathered into a report that was published and publicly presented to the community. The presentation to Philippi was made April 30, 2008 in the Council Chambers at City Hall. See the menu below for a link to the report in pdf format.

The Community Design Team project complements the First Impressions program by bringing in a larger group of people in a more structured and more public process that also involves community participation. A team of up to 20 professionals will be coming to Philippi on Thursday, June 4, 2009. The team members will meet their host families Thursday evening and will stay with their host families while in Philippi. Friday, June 5, 2009 will be a full day of tours, presentations by the community, and public meetings. The team will work most of Saturday, June 6, 2009 developing a presentation to be delivered to the community that evening. Reports and a followup visit will complete this phase of the project.

"The purpose of the Community Design Team is to help communities identify community goals and formulate steps to achieve them." The visit of the team in June should be a catalyst that spurs other local projects to enhance the community.
